The creation of a new hospitality concept in The Hague, The Netherlands.
In 2014 Studio FUNC was fully responible for the creation of a new hospitality concept and the complete rebuild of a monumental building into a hostel. From the permit phase with all disciplines, to managing a whole crew of construction workers and sourcing out all materials needed, we did it all. The construction phase of the project took us 6 months before opening the hostel.
The concept is a contemporary view on affordable accommodation. It is a mix of dormatories with shared facilities and private rooms with en-suite bathrooms. Every room is different and has a unique theme. We designed many custom made beds, from steel bunkbeds (2 & 3 tier) to a modern four post bed. We created many light fixtures, stools and tables by upcycling a mixture of materials at hand.
